Overview

Conservative vein care includes non-procedural strategies used to manage symptoms of venous insufficiency or varicose veins. It may be appropriate for mild symptoms, patients who prefer to delay treatment, pregnancy-related timing, or insurance-required documentation.

Conservative care does not remove varicose veins or close refluxing veins, but it may help reduce swelling, heaviness, aching, and fatigue.

What Conservative is used for

  • Medical-grade compression stockings
  • Walking
  • Leg elevation
  • Avoiding prolonged sitting or standing when possible
  • Weight-management support when appropriate
  • Symptom tracking
  • Skin care guidance
  • Follow-up if symptoms progress

How the treatment works

Walking activates the calf muscles, which help move blood upward. Compression supports the veins from the outside. Elevation can reduce pressure and swelling.

What to expect

Your care team may recommend a specific conservative-care plan and timeline, especially if insurance requires documentation before a procedure.

Recovery and aftercare

No downtime.

Insurance and medical necessity

Many plans require conservative therapy documentation before approving EVLT, RFA, phlebectomy, or other medical vein treatments.
